Globeville is adjacent to Elyria and Swansea in the north-central Denver area. Originally populated by Eastern European immigrants who worked in the meat packing and in the smelters in the late 1800s, the region began to be populated by Hispanics, beginning in the 1920s.
In 1917 a library was started and a 5,000 volume reading room was incorporated into the Community House, built by the Denver Real Estate Exchange in 1920. Unfortunately, this effort was not long-lived. The community, however, continued to grow until Globeville was cut in two by the North-South Highway in the 1950s. There is wide variety in real estate prices, ranging from $69,000 to $697,000. The average price is $250,000.
