Montclair is east of downtown Denver and was promoted by Baron Walter von Richthofen as Denver’s most exclusive neighborhood in the 19th century. With tuberculosis patients in mind, who often relocated to Denver for the pure air, houses were built with open side porches.
The Baron built a castle for himself at 12th and Olive. Strict building requirements were set for the neighborhood: building with only brick or stone, houses having a minimum of two stories and double sized lots. Homes include Tudor style, cottages, bungalows and ranches. Houses range from $200,000 to over $1,000,000.
